Detroit, MI – The Detroit sports community is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved mentors, Coach Raymond “Ray” Cabarris, who passed away on July 18, 2025, following a battle with cancer.

Ray’s influence stretched far beyond the football field. A coach at Detroit Southwestern High School, Central Michigan University, and Roseville High School, he was a mentor, father figure, and guiding light to generations of young athletes.

Known for his quiet strength, fierce loyalty, and deep compassion, Ray poured his heart into his work — leading with integrity and always putting others before himself.

His family recently shared the difficult news that Coach Ray did not have life insurance or burial arrangements in place. They are now asking for the community’s support to help raise $25,000 for funeral and memorial services, and to ease the financial burden during this time of grief.

“Ray gave everything he had to his players, his students, and his community,” the family shared. “Now, we hope the community can help us give him the farewell he deserves.”

Contributions will go toward funeral and burial expenses, a memorial service, and support for the family as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. Even those unable to donate are encouraged to share Ray’s story and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.

Funeral details will be shared once finalized. In the meantime, the outpouring of love and support stands as a powerful tribute to a man who meant so much to so many.
